Lady Gaga: Born This Way Foundation

Although Lady Gaga is loved by some and hated by others, I, myself, have loved her from the beginning. I believe that the image that she creates for herself is inspiring and also very creative. You can not make a dress out of meat, bubbles, stuffed animals or any other strange medium if you do not have creativity. Along with setting the example for people to be different herself, she has also started a non profit organization called the Born This Way Foundation. This is a program that encourages young adults to be accepting of others and "challenge meanness and cruelty" says Gaga herself. She, along with some other famous friends, has recently held an assembly at Harvard University to help raise awareness about bullying and self harm. Everyone is born different. It is simply the way we let society mold us that determines whether we let our differences shine through.... or not. I believe that she is an inspiration to many. What are your thoughts?

  1. I love what Lady Gaga represents, and has a person she is definately filling her goals. The only thing that I don't like about her is that she can easily be misinterpretted to encourage things that can and will get people hurt in certain areas. For example, a black kid that lives in the hood decides to come out about being homosexual and preach it to the locals, it could get him hurt. Although he should have the right, the fact is that a lot of people don't even care enough to process what cruelty is being done by them judging the way they do. Lada Gaga has gotten many people hurt and killed, but she had good intentions. I am kinda bittersweet on her.

  2. Jada, your question is a great one. "It is simply the way we let society mold us that determines whether we let our differences shine through.... or not." Without a doubt, society molds each one of us more than any other entity in our lives, even more than our parents. It's why we wear clothes, watch TV, buy certain products, etc. But, what really determines individualism (in my opinion) is not the appearance of someone, but instead a stringent desire to remain true to one's own goals, beliefs, perspective, etc. that are inherently your own and not influenced by society. That's a hard thing to figure out because we have been, and constantly are, being influenced by our surrounding society and it's difficult to determine how much of our own personality, desires, opinions, style, goals, etc. are truely are own. Obviously, we will be influenced by others (think of great books, great art, great music, videos, speeches, etc.) but it's a rare thing when you see someone who is truly individualistic, not bound by the cultural chains of our society. In most cases, those people are extremely scary. Food for thought.
